Meet Tamara Brown, Director of Divers Academy International!

Q. Tammy, how long have you been a part of Divers Academy International?

A. My parents originally founded Divers Academy International (DAI), and since 1982, DAI has been my “home base” as well. I helped to develop DAI into the premier commercial diving training school that it is, and have served as its Director since 1991.

Q. What are your special areas of interest and expertise?

A. My passion for commercial diving extends into the industry as a whole. I am a regulatory specialist in both vocational education and diving education and safety.

Q. I understand that you have held several positions within the dive industry. Would you name them?

A. Certainly. I served as president of the Association of Commercial Diving Educators for multiple terms, acted as the secretant of the commercial dive training standard for the past 8 years through ANSI, and served as a regulatory management specialist on the accrediting team of the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges.

Q. Can you comment on your involvement with dive training and safety?

A. I was glad to work closely with the Association of Diving Contractors on their safety and education committees, and to help write and accredit the commercial diving training standard through ANSI.

Q. Would you name a moment in your diving career that you are particularly proud of?

A. Yes; being inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame in 2000!

Q. How would you characterize your role at Divers Academy International?

A. Ultimately, I am a career builder and a dream maker. There are so many opportunities in commercial diving and underwater welding – all it takes is education. Through DAI, I help provide that education so people can take advantage of the opportunities that the future holds for them.
